Day and Night Book Tag

I have seen this tag floating around the BookTube community for a while and so was quite excited when I was tagged by Meena from Tattooed Pages to complete it. So thank you Meena!

D: Do you read more in the morning or at night?

I read more in that afternoon/evening and at night than in the morning (unless you count the wee hours such as 12-3am).

A: Are there any books that changed the way you thought about things?

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher was the first book for me that really delved into the issues of suicide and bullying in a contemporary setting. Eating Disorders: The Path to Recovery by Kate Middleton (not the one married to a prince!) was very influential and insightful in my understanding of eating disorders.

Y: YA or not?

Heck yes.

A: Are there any characters you honestly believe to be real?

Unfortunately, no matter how much I wish it otherwise, book characters are works of fiction. So, no

N: Nobody borrows my books or I don’t mind lending them out?

It depends on who is borrowing the book(s). I do lend out my books to a few trusted people.

D: Do you ever smell your books?

Many sometimes, but not really.

N: Not everyone likes books, is this a positive or a negative?

It’s certainly a very depressing thing to witness. I am passionate about and I enjoy stories, no matter what form they’re in – book, film, TV show, it doesn’t matter. However, books are by far my favourite format and, I believe, the most important.

I: I keep my books in the best condition or maybe not? Which are you?

I try to keep my books in the best condition, though I do tend to break my spines. However, it is an entirely different story for (most of) my school books. *cough* Unnecessary highlighting, annotations, pen, grey lead… Whoops.

G: Gosh I have too many books! True or False?

I have so many more books to buy it is not even funny. Now that I actually have a job, I have so much catching up to do…

H: Have you ever spilled or stained your books before with something, and if so how?

The most memorable time is when I was on holidays in Queensland and brought a class text with me that belonged to the school library so that I could do my homework. I clearly remember spilling tomato soup all over the open pages and mum coming in and having to use the hair dryer to get rid of it. To be fair, it was a really bad book (Hunting Elephants) and I would have only been in grade five at the time.

T: Toned or untoned while reading? . . or in other words. . .Do you read and workout at the same time?

Hahahaha–NO. Just, no. I don’t even know how that would work… Not that I really care as I don’t work out regardless.

Thank you again Meena! I tag Lizzie from mylittlebookblog and Katie from IntoTheBookCase to do this tag. I also tag anyone  who stumbles upon this and decides that they want to do it – you can say that I officially tagged you. Please let me know if you do so I can check out your answers!

Reader Problems Tag

I first saw this tag on Katytastic‘s BookTube channel but was actually tagged by Casey from inspiredbythepage – you should definitely check out both of these awesome people!

#1: You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

I honestly just go with what I’m in the mood for on my shelf. I have a stack on my bedside table where I put all the books that I want to read in the immediate future. I do try and prioritize library books and those borrowed from friends but it really just depends on what I feel like reading.

#2: You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

This really depends on the book. I am in the middle of “reading” quite a few books  at the moment… I do try and persevere but if it comes to the point that I’m not reading because I’m avoiding that book, I’m going to put it down (“temporarily”).

#3: The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

I will try and catch up but depending on the amount of books I have and how busy I am, I may tweak my reading challenge slightly (shh). If I do decide to try and catch up, it will most certainly by binge reading – there really is no other way.

#4: The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

Here’s the thing: I do have money in my bank account, but I have literally only started working a couple of days ago. So, I usually just have to live with it. However, I may start fixing up a few things here and there and giving the duplicates to my cousin and/or friends. We’ll see.

#5: Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

I vent. Be it on my blog, to one of my friends or even to my family – despite them typically having absolutely no idea what I’m talking about. To me, venting is extremely helpful.

#6: You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

See, when I cry in books (or movies) I don’t full on sob – I just tear up really badly. In public, I usually try to hide my face with my hair and hope that I’ve got some tissues on me. If people come up to me in concern, I’ll tell them the truth – its not like I’ll ever see them again.

#7: A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads?

Ideally, I re-read the previous book(s) – but that usually doesn’t happen. I always read the synopsis of previous installments and perhaps the last chapter or so if the last novel. However, I am incredibly lazy so just wing it most of the time and hope that I remember all that I need.

#8: You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

I politely decline. Depending on who it is that is asking and what book is in question, I may let them borrow it. If not, I will apologise but say that I have several books out on lend already, most of which I lent out quite a long time ago and have not gotten them back. (True story)

#9: You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

Fortunately, I do not believe that I have really experienced a reading slump yet (that I can recall). However, there is always at least one book that I’m really excited to read so I will pick that one up. If not, I will probably try re-reading some of my favorites.

#10: There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

As afore mentioned, it is only now that I have actually started my first job – so not that many. However, that does not mean that I will not eventually pick them up. If I  so desperate, I will find a way to buy them or beg someone else to buy it for me.

#11: After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

Yeah, about that… I have unread books on my shelf from over three (maybe four) years ago. This is mostly because they were impulse buys and were either really cheap or I bought them to complete a series that I later lost interest in. At least one of these books were given to me as a Christmas present and I just never really had the motivation to pick it up.

For the most part, I do try and get to books quickly but quite a lot of them sit on my shelf for a few months before I eventually end up picking them up. I know that it’s really bad, but I can’t seem to help it.

Thank you again to Casey for tagging me – I had a lot of fun! I now tag tattooed pages to complete this challenge. If anyone else would like to do this tag feel free and please leave a link to your post in the comments and I will be sure to check them out. Also, if you simply want to leave your answers to some (or all) of the questions in the comments please do.

Reading Habits Tag

Hello! This is my second book tag and the first one that I was actually tagged in (thank you tattooedpages!) This tag was created by TheBookJazz and has been floating around BookTube for a while. I am a huge believer that more people should participate in book tags and challenges in the Blogosphere so without further ado, here it is:

#1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Yes, I rarely read at home in places other than my bed. (I love it!!)

#2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

A bookmark! My local bookstore (QBD) have these AMAZING bookmarks for $3 each. Although I have an array of other bookmarks, I always find myself using these.

I also have another one which I can’t seem to find but has a really cute picture of a tiger with the text “Is it Friday yet?” It’s so adorable! I love them all but I have to say that the first two are my favorites.

#3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

So long as I finish the paragraph, I’m not too fussed. Recently I’ve been reading a lot in 5-10 minute time slots, stealing a few chapters here and there when I finish a task early or such. When I’m at home, I like to read until the end of the chapter but I don’t mind too much.
#4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Haha, no. One of the reasons I watch BookTube/vlogbrothers/CrashCourse so much is because I can’t read while eating.

#5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Again, no. I love immersing myself in books and I find it really hard to do that while there is noise in the background – another reason why I love reading in my room so much. However, I sometime try to read during the ad breaks when I’m watching TV (this usually fails).

#6. One book at a time or several at once?

Several at once. While I enjoy reading one book at a time, it usually does not happen often.

#7. Reading at home or everywhere?

I prefer to read at home, but I try to bring a book with me most places I go.

#8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Silently in my head. I feel awkward reading aloud and my first instinct is always to read it in my head.

#9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Admittedly, I used to (4-5 years ago) have a huge problem with this. I am so glad that I am over it…

#10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I honestly don’t really know what it means to “break the spine”… I love having my books look new, but reading them is even better. So if my spine “breaks”, so long as it doesn’t threaten the integrity of the pages (i.e. make them fall out) I guess I’m fine with it.

#11. Do you write in your books?

Other than my school books, no. And by school books I do not mean text books. Seriously, I highlight excessively and everything… Sometimes at least. But I always write in school novels, be it in greylead, pen or highlighter.

#12. Who do you tag?

I don’t really know anyone in the Blogosphere who does book tags and I would like to see that change so I tag all of you lovely people!

If you decide to do this tag or have completed books tags before leave the link(s) below and I’ll be sure to check them out.
